Premises of therapy:
I will equip you with tools and skills. I will empower you to thrive independently. Maya angelou stated, "When you know better, you do better." I assert that knowing is not enough--you have to have the equipment--the tools and skills--to do so. the only constant in life is change, and as such, you are destined to need a lot of tools. . .
There is no one-size-fits-all in therapy. You are unique and your needs, wants and goals will reflect this. I will tailor therapy to you. We will collaborate: you are the expert on you and I have expertise in the field. You establish your goals and I will offer relevant information, feedback and support to empower you to manifest these goals.
I do not seek to diagnose but rather to understand the roots of presenting issues. On occasion, I may offer diagnoses--but as a means of promoting understanding, educating and sharing possible treatments (as relevant).
I offer a variety of treatment modalities to accomodate your needs and comfort. Therapy is best when it is flexible.
experiential therapies allow you to literally visualize your issues, affording you clarity on which to base your choices and decisions. healing/growth/repair cannot occur with that which is denied, and awareness is the first step in breaking denial. I will support you in taking that first step and beyond toward achieving your goals.
Trauma therapies are tailored to the brain: the part that registers trauma, the limbic system, does not have access to language, rationale or a sense of space and time. As such, talk therapies are ineffective. Again, I offer a variety of treatment modalities such as EMDR, Experiential and yoga therapies, trauma-focused CBT and psychodrama to resolve trauma.
Individuals
